Bury St Edmunds chartered accountants RSM kicked off a year of fundraising for GeeWizz by hosting a mixed charity netball tournament on Thursday at Culford School Sports and Tennis Centre (photo above).

After a fantastic 14 teams took part, Abi Robinson, audit manager at RSM, said: “It was a brilliant event and we were delighted with how successful it was.

“The tournament was won by a team from the Priors and raised a fantastic £1,550 for GeeWizz. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported it.”

RSM are now planning a rounders tournament on Thursday 13th July while a group will also be taking their place in the Orwell Walk on Sunday 26th June in support of the charity.

In keeping with the health and fitness theme, a five-a-side tournament at Thetford (photo below right) also raised money for GeeWizz – and in particular Wayne Harvey, who lives in the town and who has been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Tournament organiser, Jamie Jarrett, said: “This is the fifth time we have run the competition in memory of a close friend of mine, Richard Croone, after he died in a road accident five years ago.

“Richard was a big character and a lot of people knew him in Thetford so the tournament is always well supported and a good success for local charities. Goals R Us winners of Geewizz Thetford five a side

“We wanted to help Wayne and once we heard GeeWizz had also got involved in supporting him, we were delighted to get involved.”

GeeWizz was also a beneficiary from Sunday’s popular raft race at Needham Market Lake through the continued support of Duncan and Kara Foster and Kara’s company Encore Wellness (photo above right).

Gina Long said: “To have this amazing community backing is incredible and will make such a big difference to the families we support. I would like to say a massive thank you to every single person who supported all these incredible events.”
