Suffolk Accountancy firm, Knights Lowe are undertaking an impressive fundraising task, the Three Peaks Challenge! They are attempting to climb the highest mountains of England, Scotland, and Wales, all within 24 hours. This distance totals 37km of hiking, covering an ascent of 10,052ft.
Knights Lowe are climbing to raise money for GeeWizz and Alzheimer’s Society with a goal of £9,000 which they will be splitting between their chosen charities.
“GeeWizz is a local charity supporting children and young adults across Suffolk who are learning disabled or have a life limiting illness. Both charities are great causes, but we need your support, so any donations will be greatly appreciated. On behalf of these wonderful charities, we thank you for your support in advance.” – Knights Lowe
Scafell Pike is England’s highest mountain standing at 3,209ft tall! It is in the heart of the Lake District. Scafell Pike Mountain is also home to the deepest lake in England, Westwater Lake which is 258 ft deep!
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Scotland and the British Isles. It stands at a towering 4,413ft and the summit is a collapsed dome of an ancient volcano! It is believed that the first person to summit Ben Nevis was Botanist, James Robertson in 1771, who was collecting local flora.
Wales’s tallest mountain, Snowden, has a peak of 3,560ft! Snowdon can be found in ancient mythology, said to be the place where King Arthur killed a giant! Hopefully the Knights Lowe team will face no such peril!
Knights Lowe have been on two practice hikes, the first in the Peak District, climbing Kinder Scout and Jacob’s Ladder on 7th May, and the last on the 28th of May to the Breacon Beacons. The weather wasn’t in their favour in Wales unfortunately, but the team still did very well, completing the walk in under 6 hours! All in very wet, windy, and foggy conditions.
